Navratri Festival Calendar for year 2015 and 2016

The nine day Hindu festival of Navratri is dedicated to the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga Navratri 2015 will start from October 13 and will end with Dusshera on October 22. This Navratri is also known as Shardiya Navratra. Chaitra navratri 2016 will begin from April 8 and end on April 15 as per Hindu calendar. The most important Navratri in a year is the Shardiya Navratri, which commence on first day of the bright half of Ashwin (September-October) as per the Hindu calendar.

Apart from Navratri in September – October, there are three other Navratri season that falls in a year. Among them yet another auspicious time is the Chaitra Navratri that falls in March – April.  These are also known as Ram Navratri.

The other two are Magh (January – February) and Ashad (June – July) navratris. These are termed as Gupt Navratri. These are mainly observed in the certain regions on North India.

The dates of Shardiya navratri in the year 2015 are as follows

Navratri Day 1 – October 13, 2015 – Ghatsthapana – Navratri Begins – Shailputri Puja

Navratri Day 2 – October 14, 2015 – Pratipada – Chandra Darshan

Navratri Day 2 – October 15, 2015 – Sindoor Tritiya – Brahmacharini Puja

Navratri Day 3 – October 16, 2015 – Varad Vinayak Chaturthi – Chandraghanta Puja

Navratri Day 4 – October 17, 2015 – Upang Lalita Vrat – Lalitha Panchami – Kushmanda Puja

Navratri Day 5 – October 18, 2015 – Saraswati Awahan – Skandamata Puja

Navratri Day 6 – October 19, 2015 – Saraswathi Puja (western parts of India) – Katyayani Puja

Navratri Day 7 – October 20, 2015 – Kaalratri Puja

Navratri Day 8 – October 21, 2015 – Mahashtami – Annapoorna Parikrama – Saraswati Visarjan

Navratri Day 9 and 10 – October 22, 2015 – Mahanavami and Dasami. The tenth day is celebrated as Dasara or Vijaya Dashami.

South India

In South India, Goddess Durga is worshipped during the first three days. During the next three days, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped. In the last three days, Goddess Saraswati is worshipped.

Day 1 – April 8, 2016; Ghatsthapana – Navratri

Day 2 – April 9, 2016; Sindhara Dooj, Dwitiya

Day 3 – April 9, 2016; Gaur Teej, Saubhagya Teej, Tritiya

Day 4 – April 10, 2016; Varadvinayak Chaturthi

Day 5 – April 11, 2016; Sri Laxmi Panchami Vrat, Naag Vrat Pujan

Day 6 – April 12, 2016; Skand Shashthi, Yamuna Jayanti

Day 7 – April 13, 2016; Mahasaptami Vrat, Chaiti Chath, Vijaya Saptami

Day 8 – April 14, 2016; Sri Durga Mahaashtami, Annapurna Ashtami

Day 9 – April 15, 2016; Chaitra Navratri ends – Ram Navratri. The day is also termed as Ram Navami

Magh Navratri or Gupt Navratra (January – February)

In the year 2016, Magh Navratri will begins on February 9, 2016 and end on February 16, 2016

Ashad Navratri or Gupt Navaratri (June – July)

In the year 2016, Ashad Navratri will begin on July 17, 2016 and end on July 25, 2016

Shardiya Navrati 2016 (September/ October) dates –

The Shardiya navratri will fall on October 1 to October 11, 2016
