Legends and History of Dhanteras-
Behind celebrating the Dhanteras festival an interesting story is there. Once upon a time, It is considered that king Hima’s 16th year old son was passed away just take the snake bite the on the 4th day of his marriage. On the 4th day of marriage, his wife did not allow her husband to sleep. His wife was very clever. She arranges some ornaments and also lots of silver coins and made a larger heap at the doorway of her husband. With the help of numerous lamp she also made light all around the place of his husband.
With the appearance of a snake, the God of death (Yama) came to his husband, and his eyes got sightless by the dazzling light of the lamps, gold ornaments and silver coins. Therefore, Lord Yuma could not enter into his chamber. After that he tried to ascend to the top of the heap and also started to listen the harmonious songs of his wife. In the early morning he had gone away without taking her husband. So that the newly and young married wife had saved her husband from death. That’s the reason the festival Dhanteras is also known as Yamadeepdaan. During the whole night of this day candles are kept blazing in respect to the God Yama.
